Sedation

 Instructions for IV Sedation:

  • No food or drink 8 hours prior to surgery
  • If you take daily medications in the morning, continue dosage as normal with enough water to swallow medication
  • You must have a driver bring you to the appointment and drive you home after the procedure as well as stay with you following surgery
  • Do not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours
  • Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing. Sleeves should be able to be pushed above your elbows.
  • If possible, do not wear contact lenses to appointment
  • The medications used for IV Sedation may cause continued drowsiness after completion of the appointment, limit strenuous activity and relax as much as possible
  • Avoid drinking energy drinks and eating spicy foods for at least 3 days prior to appointment

Instructions for Oral Sedation:

  • You must have a driver bring you to the appointment and drive you home after the procedure
  • Do not eat or drink for 8 hours prior to oral sedation
  • Do not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours. The medications used for Oral Sedation may cause continued drowsiness after leaving the office. Limit strenuous activity and relax as much as possible
  • Drinking something that contains sugar such as fruit juice or Gatorade will help metabolize the oral sedation medication more quickly
